20 sure ways of being just another sad and mediocre business woman (1of 4)

A troubling thought, isn’t it?

You’re working so hard, but you can’t help wondering if all this effort is actually worth it. Lying on your deathbed, would you be proud looking back on your life? Did you enjoy all - love, success and happiness - you crave? Did you express all your greatness? Did you become the business woman you aspired to?

Great questions. And the problem is, you don’t really have an answer.

Most of the time, you feel like running on a hamster wheel. You cannot tell what’s working and what’s not. It feels like a trap.

Maybe you came here to find some answers. Maybe you’re hoping I’ll tell you what to do.

But I won’t.

Not because I don’t want to, but because sometimes you can’t understand what to do until you first understand what NOT to do. So, let’s start there.

With this one I start a blog series. Here’s the first installment of the big list of ways to sabotage your life. How many are you guilty of?

1. Say Yes to everything

Is your agenda full? Are you taking on projects that you hate? Are you going to parties you don’t want to go? Are you making favors to everyone?

Yes, taking action is important, but what is even more important? Focus.

By dividing you attention, you are pretty much guaranteeing you will do all of the wrong. Even worse, you are guaranteeing that the projects related to your life purpose won’t get done.

2. Not investing in Yourself

Fear of success stop us from investing in developing our most valuable resource. When it’s a matter of developing our skills, we tend to first check with someone else or wondering if this is the right timing.  Even more we think we should better invest in our family.

Remember to grow any business venture, you must invest in its development. This is not different when it's about you, a business woman.

3. Victim of Negative Emotions

Bringing emotions to the workplace is our strengths. However when we allow them to fully control us, we can damage work relationships and team morale. We need to learn to manage this female super power.

4. Be Manlier Than Men

For centuries men have had the monopoly in power and money. So it’s logical to assume that to emulate them is the most harmonious way to attain power and money. Sure, that made sense when the suffragist were fighting for the vote. At that time the pendulum to the opposite extreme of femininity. Women cut their hair, stop wearing corsets, started speaking up and make many other unfeminine choices. This trend has gone on to see women also copying traits of nasty men: backstabbing, gas-lighting, humiliating,  shouting, bullying and more.

This extreme behavior is now unnecessary. We are no longer locked in the derogative and restrictive prison: Kinder, Küche, Kirche (a German slogan translated as “children, kitchen, church”). Think about it, when we behave like a man at work we become a handicapped man. It’s like using a Ferrari to carry cement. When we actually bring our femininity strengths to work, we’ll be running fast – like a Ferrari.

5. Perfectionism

We self-impose impossible standards in all areas of our life. No, it’s not society or your mom to blame for this. We take it upon us to be thin, intelligent, wealthy, kind, social, and the list goes on. We must be perfect. All we do needs to be perfect. So we become rigid and dominating. We work insanely hard. No wonder burnout has become almost the exclusive privilege of women. There’s no space in our life for compassion or empathy for ourselves or others.

“ Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”

Marilyn Monroe

So, why do we women do these?

Simply put, because our inherited and persistent mental programming.

Can we change it?

YES!

Where is the book to fix this?

It doesn't exit!

To make this change we need to go beyond our conscious mind. This is very challenging for every business woman, as your intelligent conscious mind will trick you and keep you in the prison of your old mental patterns. We need to take a different approach, one that it’s more raw and feminine.
