I’m furious! I’m writing this because I’m absolutely furious!
How is it possible that people blessed with amazing gifts feel forced to forget about their blessings and turn themselves into the corporate jail! I see painters holding a part time job behind the computer. I see story tellers becoming gray while they join meaningless, eternal meetings. I see healers updating senseless databases. You could say: there’s nothing wrong with that. So, this is the right time for you to stop reading this. If you’re still with me, you do agree that there’s something deeply wrong with this scenario. So, why do fellow change agents hide their talents? There are so many “reasons”:
- I am not good enough: I’m a man, I’m a woman, I’m old, I’m young, I’m gay, I’m from country x, I just speak language y…
- My product is too innovative (fluffy, spiritual, weird)
- How am I going to pay the mortgage?
- Who do I think I am to be successful, famous or wealthy?
- I’m not an entrepreneur/I cannot sell / I don’t like selling/ I’m not a sales person
This touches me so deeply because I’ve been there. These thoughts and many more kept me away from my true calling for years! These same thoughts are the ones that keep attacking my customers, my friends and many other fellow change agents around the world. We need to stop this. It is important! It’s important for the people who YOU are meant to serve. They need you and in fact, they are waiting for you. We are waiting for YOU! It’s NOT acceptable that we, change agents,
- don’t embody our lifework, our BIG WHY
- don’t raise our rates / don’t value our value
- don’t start that exciting new project we’ve been thinking about for weeks (or months, or years)
- work on projects we dislike with people who don’t respect you
- don’t give potential ideal customers the opportunity to buy from us
- try to do everything by ourselves / never ask for help
