I’m furious! I’m writing this because I’m absolutely furious! How is it possible that people blessed with amazing gifts feel forced to forget about their blessings and turn themselves into the corporate jail! I see painters holding a part time job behind the computer. I see story tellers becoming gray while they join meaningless, eternal meetings. I see healers updating senseless databases. You could say: there’s nothing wrong with that. So, this is the right time for you to stop reading this. If you’re still with me, you do agree that there’s something deeply wrong with this scenario. The painter should paint. The storyteller should transform reality with his stories. The healer should heal. So, why do fellow change agents hide in the corporate structure? There are so many “reasons”:
- How am I going to pay the mortgage?
- Who do I think I am?
- The (eternal) crisis
- I’m not an entrepreneur
- I cannot sell / I don’t like selling/ I’m not a sales person
- I cannot do that because: I’m a man, I’m a woman, I’m old, I’m young, I’m gay, I’m from country x, I just speak language y…
This touches me so much because I’ve been there. These thoughts and many more kept me away from my true calling for years! These same thoughts are the ones that keep attacking my customers, my friends and many other fellow change agents around the world. We need to stop this. It is important! It’s important for the people who YOU are meant to serve. The people who you’re meant to serve need you. In fact, they are waiting for you. We are waiting for YOU! So, it’s NOT acceptable that we, change agents,
- don’t raise our rates
- don’t start that exciting new project we’ve been thinking about for weeks (or months, or years)
- don’t follow up with potential clients
- don’t give potential customers the opportunity to buy from us
- try to do everything by ourselves
- don’t contact fellow change agents, who can get our name out in front of the people we’re meant to serve
- don’t outsource
- don’t have a mentor
- don’t quit our day job / part time job
- don’t let people know about our website / newsletter / e-book
